Kharcha Paani · Last updated: October 29, 2026
Kharcha Paani is a personal expense tracker made by Ojas. This page explains in plain language what information the app handles and what control you have over it.
1. What we collect
- Account: your email address and sign-in method (email/password or Google).
- What you enter: expenses (amount, category, note, date), your monthly budget, roommate names and shared expenses in the Split feature.
- Optional screenshots: payment screenshots you choose to attach. They may show payee names or UPI details, so attach them only if you are comfortable.
The app does not access your SMS, contacts, location, microphone or camera roll beyond the single image you pick yourself.
2. What stays only on your device
- Your PIN is stored on your device as a hash, never on a server.
- Fingerprint unlock is handled by your phone. The app only receives a yes or no and never sees your fingerprint.
- Your theme choice and app-lock settings.
3. How we use it
Only to run the app: to show your expenses, charts, budget and balances, and to let you sign in on any phone. We do not sell your data, share it for advertising, or use analytics or ad trackers.
4. Where it is stored and who processes it
- Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore) stores your account and data.
- Netlify hosts the website files.
- Google Fonts may be loaded to display text styles.
Data is sent over HTTPS. Database rules allow each signed-in user to read and write only their own data. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication and are not visible to the app owner.
5. Who can see your data
Other users of the app cannot see your data. The app owner has access to the Firebase console, so saved data can technically be viewed there. It will be viewed only to fix problems with the app.
6. Your choices
- Edit or delete any expense inside the app at any time.
- Download a backup or CSV of your expenses from the History tab.
- Delete your account and all stored data from Settings → Privacy & Safety → Delete my account & data.
7. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13.
8. Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top will be updated.
9. Contact
Questions or deletion requests: use the contact links in the app under Settings → About.
This is a plain-language summary of how the app works, not a legal contract.
